Rector's Message
|
Here is All Saints' Church -- housed in a building that dates from 1882, worshipping in the best Episcopal tradition, and communicating on the World Wide Web! Actually, that may be the perfect description of this parish. We admire tradition, and at the same time, no grass is growing under our feet. Worship is our central activity, with everything else fanning out from that. It is through coming together as a community of faith to hear God's Word, to sing, to pray, and to be welcomed at the Lord's Table for Holy Communion, that we are renewed and strengthened, so that we may be better equipped for the world of 2008. I am inspired to hear our youngest parishioners talk about how they know Jesus. They seem to have such a close relationship. Maybe what we are about in this parish, is trying to keep that relationship with Jesus strong. All of us, young and old, are learning more and more to let our faith shape our lives. With the help of God and each other, we will face the challenges that come along, without losing sight of the joy. In Peace, Jane Rockman |
A brief biography of our Rector, the Rev. Jane L. Rockman: The Rev. Rockman has been the Rector of All Saints' Episcopal Church since January of 2000. She has been an excellent spiritual leader for our parish with a combination of qualities that are wonderfully suited to our parish's needs. With her sermons, classes, and other communications, she sets an inquiring and intelligent tone. She excels in her pastoral care and works well with all of the groups advancing our various ministries. She brings enthusiasm to everything she does. Jane, as all but our youngest call her, comes to us from The Church of the Ascension in New York City, where she was part of two-person clergy team. Her focus there was on the liturgical, administrative, and pastoral life of the parish. She graduated from Union Theological Seminary, and has degrees from Smith College and New York University. Before attending seminary, Jane worked in both television and print media in New York City. She wrote and did research for ABC, NBC, and CBS, and she worked on a PBS series hosted by Bill Moyers. Jane published articles on urban issues in The New York Times, New York Magazine, Working Woman, and other publications. |
